DBT
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a specialized form of cognitive behavioral therapy designed to help individuals manage intense emotions and improve relationships. Developed by Dr. Marsha Linehan, DBT integrates techniques from behavioral science with concepts of mindfulness and dialectics. It emphasizes acceptance and change, teaching clients skills such as mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. DBT is particularly effective for individuals who struggle with chronic suicidal thoughts or self-harm behaviors. It promotes a balanced approach to therapy, validating the client's experiences while also encouraging behavioral change towards a life worth living. DBT is structured and typically involves individual therapy, group skills training, phone coaching, and therapist consultation to support comprehensive treatment.
Please Note: I am not currently offering DBT skills training in a group format but plan to in the future! DBT skills group may be strongly recommended to you following the initial consultation, and if so, I will work to find you a DBT group.

CBT
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a widely recognized therapeutic approach that focuses on the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. It operates on the principle that our thoughts influence our feelings and behaviors, and aims to identify and modify negative or unhelpful thought patterns that contribute to distress. By challenging these patterns and replacing them with more constructive ways of thinking, CBT helps individuals develop healthier coping mechanisms and achieve lasting emotional resilience. This structured and goal-oriented therapy is effective across a range of psychological disorders, from anxiety and depression to substance abuse and eating disorders. CBT emphasizes collaboration between therapist and client, empowering individuals to actively participate in their own healing and personal growth.

DBT-PE
Dialectical Behavior Therapy for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (DBT-PE) combines elements of DBT with Prolonged Exposure (PE) therapy to treat individuals struggling with PTSD, particularly those who also exhibit emotion dysregulation and interpersonal difficulties. Developed by Dr. Melanie Harned, DBT-PE integrates mindfulness and distress tolerance skills from DBT with exposure techniques from PE. The therapy helps clients gradually confront and process traumatic memories in a safe and structured manner while learning to regulate intense emotions and improve interpersonal relationships. DBT-PE emphasizes creating a supportive therapeutic environment, building trust between therapist and client, and adapting exposure exercises to ensure they are manageable and effective. This integrated approach aims to reduce PTSD symptoms, enhance emotional resilience, and promote a sense of empowerment and mastery over traumatic experiences.

Parent Management Training
Parent Management Training (PMT) is a structured and evidence-based approach aimed at helping parents develop effective strategies for managing their children's behavior and improving family dynamics. It focuses on teaching parents specific skills and techniques to address behavioral problems, enhance communication, and strengthen the parent-child relationship. PMT typically involves education about child development and behavior, learning positive reinforcement strategies, setting clear expectations and limits, and implementing consistent consequences for behavior. It emphasizes the importance of consistency, structure, and positive reinforcement in shaping children's behavior and promoting their social and emotional development. PMT sessions often include role-playing exercises, homework assignments, and ongoing support to help parents apply new skills effectively in their daily interactions with their children. This approach is beneficial for parents of children of all ages, from toddlers to adolescents, and can address a wide range of behavioral issues, including defiance, aggression, and attention problems.
